Check Up

At Mount Kuring-Gai Dental check up we you can expect a complete examination of your teeth and gums to ensure we assess all elements of your oral health.

The dentist may request that digital dental x-rays be taken of your teeth and gums during your dental check-up.

You can discuss any specific concerns or issues with your teeth, gums or appearance of your smile and they will explain the treatments needed to address these.

With our intraoral camera we can clearly show you and explain any of our findings inside your mouth and what can be achieved by the treatments we recommend.

Children Dental

Finding a clinic with a friendly and safe atmosphere is vital to establishing a trusting relationship with younger people. MKD has created an environment that lessens anxiety and makes a visit to the dentist a more comfortable and positive experience.

As well as our friendly dentists, we have many tools such as chair side cameras and video screens to communicate, educate (and at times distract!) the children on processes and treatments we may carry out to help them feel prepared and informed, less uncomfortable and more involved in the experience.

Dental Implant

If you have lost a tooth or due to decay your tooth was unable to be restored you may like to consider a dental implant.

Our dentist will consider your overall oral health in regards to the condition of your mouth, head and gums, including your jaw bone, after reviewing x-rays to determine if implants are a good choice for you.

An implant has a root made of titanium metal which is inserted into the jawbone which acts as the anchor for the replacement tooth which is placed on top.

Fillings

Should you require a tooth to be repaired there are options available depending on the location and type of damage you have sustained. Traditional or silver fillings are hardwearing and cost effective.

Composite or white fillings offer great cosmetic advantage, as they blend in with your natural teeth.

You can discuss with your dentist which type if filling is right for the tooth being repaired.

Mouth Guards

A mouthguard is great device for protecting your teeth and mouth from injury when playing contact sports, where the risk of injury is high.
Customised mouthguards are a way to properly protect your smile.

Custom mouthguards, to cater to all potential levels of impact or trauma can be made by our dentists in just a few days at Mount Kuring-Gai Dental with different colours and patterns for you to choose from.

What is a nightguard or splint?

A nightguard is a rigid plastic splint that is worn at night, preventing the upper and lower-level layers of teeth from coming into contact.

These are usually worn to prevent jaw clenching or night-time grinding which can cause the stunting of teeth and higher levels of sensitivity, making your teeth more fracture prone.

We will customise this splint just as we do a mouthguard and the same colours and patterns are available.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal treatment, or endodontic treatment, is a treatment for a tooth’s nerve that is infected, inflamed or it is beginning to die. If you are experiencing extreme sensitivity or pain in the gum around a tooth, increased sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures

This can be caused by –

  • A cavity, filling or crown breakdown
  • Any teeth that have suffered chips or cracks
  • Accidents, traumas or injuries
  • Gum disease
  • Extensive wear-and-tear

treatment usually takes two to three visits ensuring the inside of the infected tooth is properly cleaned, shaped and filled once the nerve is removed. A filling is then fitted on top of your natural tooth to make it functional and comfortable.

Mount Kuring-Gai Dental uses a rotary endodontic unit that enables faster treatment and more positive outcome compared to other methods.

Sleep Disorders

Untreated sleep apnoea can cause a wide range of effects on the human body, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, depression and headaches. With sleep apnoea, the individual stops breathing, sometimes hundreds of times per night, which robs the brain, heart and body of oxygen.

If you are suffering from Obstructed Sleep Apnoea a sleep study should be conducted intially, our Dentist’s can arrange this for you and if the results show an oral appliance will improve the apnoea then either the B.E.D or a Somnomend device is your answer to a good nights sleep, a better feeling you and even a happier partner too.

The oral appliance is designed to advance the lower jaw which keeps the airways open ensuring your body recieves the oxygen it needs and to sleep peacfully. The first step to achieve this; Our Dentist’s will take specially designed impressions of your upper and lower teeth for the appliance to be made and this is done either in house or sent to the Somnomed company for construction. You will then return to have your custom made device fitted and take the time for you to become comfortable with your new device and answer and questions you have.

Mount Kuring-Gai Dental is dedicated to promoting good oral health to all members of our community through education, prevention, maintenance and treatment – making lifelong smiles!

Tooth Extraction

Ideally we would all like to keep our natural teeth. Sometimes however our teeth can be damaged or worn down to a place where extraction of the tooth in question is the better option.

Teeth Cleaning

A professional scale and clean by your dentist removes plaque and tartar that are unable to be removed when brushing and flossing at home.

This treatment is usually done at the same appointment as your regular check-up. You can have a separate appointment just for a clean, or if there’s more than the expected amount of build-up to remove or if your gum health needs attention.

Following your scale and clean your dentist will apply concentrated fluoride on your teeth. This will harden the enamel of the teeth assisting in the prevention of tooth decay, wear and erosion caused by acidic foods and drinks. It is recommend to a check-up and clean every six months.

Scheduling a regular dental check-up allows for early detection of any underlying conditions and could prevent the need for major dental work as a result.

Children as young as 3 years of age can start regular check-ups so they become comfortable with the dentist and the environment maximising their opportunity for lifelong dental health.

Teeth Whitening

Why do our teeth discolour?

Teeth naturally yellow over time, however, there are other factors that speed up the process. Regular exposure to coffee, tea and alcohol can stain teeth. By undergoing regular check-ups and cleans you can keep your teeth looking white and fresh. This will remove surface stains, however, to achieve brighter results, teeth whitening treatment is advised.

In-Practice whitening treatment that will usually last around 45 minutes. A whitening gel is applied to your teeth and it is activated by a clinical-grade LED light.

Over the counter whitening products may only remove some lighter staining on a temporary basis. They work on the tooth’s surface, which makes them much less effective than professional whitening methods. Book a consultation to speak with your dentist about the best whitening option for you.

X-Rays

X-Rays and OPG of your teeth are used  perform a comprehensive examination to check for any potential damage inside or between teeth that is not visible in an external examination. This also allows us to check the health of the tooth roots and jaw bone.
